Reedman Law is seeking a senior litigation lawyer to lead files, advise clients and help develop our litigation team. This is an opportunity for an experienced advocate who wants substantial responsibility and a long-term role in an independent boutique.
Our practice focuses on commercial litigation, insolvency and restructuring, fraud and asset recovery. We act for businesses, individuals and insolvency professionals in disputes over debt, security and competing claims to assets. Our work includes contested receiverships, bankruptcy proceedings and appeals, including matters before the Supreme Court of Canada.
Requirements
The role
Working with Cody Reedman and the team, you will take independent carriage of matters and collaborate on more complex proceedings.
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing litigation strategy and advancing files through pleadings, discovery, applications, negotiation, trial and appeal.
Managing client relationships and providing clear advice about prospects, costs and practical options.
Keeping files moving, anticipating deadlines and coordinating work with colleagues and support staff.
Managing budgets, retainers, billing and receivables, with timely communication about fees and funding.
Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers, reviewing their work and supporting their development.
What you bring
You will likely have at least five years of relevant litigation experience, with demonstrated ability to manage files independently. We are looking for strong written and oral advocacy, sound commercial judgment and a practical, collegial approach to working with clients and colleagues.
Experience in insolvency, enforcement or commercial disputes is an asset.
We also welcome strong commercial litigators who want to develop that focus. You must be a practicing member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia, or eligible to become one before starting.
The opportunity and compensation
The role offers direct client contact, substantive advocacy and the opportunity to help shape the firm’s practice and mentor its lawyers. A portable practice is welcome but is not required.
We offer a competitive annual base salary of C$175,000–C$195,000, depending on relevant experience and ability to fulfil the role, plus a health spending account, and medical and dental benefits. The annual billable-hour target is 1,450 hours, alongside responsibilities for client service, file management and mentoring.
