About the Firm

Reedman Law is a boutique insolvency, restructuring, and commercial litigation firm located in downtown Vancouver. We don't dabble: our practice is focused on bankruptcy and insolvency, restructuring, commercial litigation, fraud and asset recovery, and tax insolvency matters.

We do not act for banks or other institutional clients, which keeps us largely conflict-free.

Although we are primarily known for acting for individuals and businesses as debtor counsel, we act for private secured lenders, trustees, receivers, suppliers, employees and landlords.

Founded in 2018, we have grown into a tight-knit team known for taking on complex and novel insolvency matters. We invest heavily in technology, mentorship, and doing work efficiently — and our lawyers appear where the law is being made, including recent appearances before the Supreme Court of Canada in Poonian v. British Columbia (Securities Commission), 2024 SCC 28 and Piekut v. Canada (National Revenue), 2025 SCC 13.

The Role

We are seeking an associate in the three-to-five year call range whose practice will focus on insolvency and commercial litigation. Because we are a small, focused team, you will get responsibility early: conduct of your own files of appropriate complexity, regular court appearances.

Day-to-day work will include:

  • Proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act

  • Foreclosures, receiverships, and secured creditor remedies and defence, including negotiating forbearance agreements and workouts

  • Commercial litigation, including fraud and asset recovery claims and insolvency related litigation

  • Tax litigation, insolvency and CRA collection matters

  • Chambers applications, bankruptcy discharge hearings, examinations, mediations, and trial and appellate, with regular appearances in the BC Supreme Court

Prior insolvency experience is an asset but not a prerequisite. We are equally interested in strong commercial litigators with genuine curiosity about insolvency, financial disputes, and financial litigation.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Called to the bar of British Columbia between 2021 and 2023, or eligible for immediate transfer

  • Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills, with comfort working through financial records and commercial documents

  • Comfortable on your feet in court, or eager to get there quickly

  • Organized and self-directed, able to manage a busy caseload in a collaborative team

  • Sound judgment, a client-service mindset, and an interest in building a long-term specialized practice in insolvency

Compensation & What We Offer

  • Base salary: $145,000 – $170,000, depending on year of call and experience

  • A 1,550-hour annual billable target

  • A bonus program that pays a percentage of fees collected on hours billed above target, our associates share directly in what they collect

  • Payment of Law Society fees and CPD allowance

  • Health Spending Plan

  • 3 weeks vacation (15 paid days off)

  • Mentorship from senior counsel and early, substantial court experience
